PUPPIES FOR SALE

THE MISERY BEHIND THAT ADORABLE LITTLE FACE.

MADGE
PACT has called for more enforcement of the laws governing dog breeders after they had to take in a puppy even though they were full.

The puppy called Madge was bought by a 79 year old woman who answered an advert in a free advertisement paper. She paid £150 for the puppy but she was unable to cope with this naughty little  terrier puppy.

Her daughter contacted the seller to take it back but he failed to show up (no surprise there). She then contacted PACT who, although full, took Madge in so she would receive the veterinary care she needed, be vaccinated and re-homed properly.

MADGE FEELING BETTER

Madge is a delightful little terrier, 6/8 weeks old, underweight and too young to be away from her mother. This has caused her to develope a severe digestive disorder which she is slowly recovering from and when fit she has a new home waiting. There were no papers, no receipt and no address from the seller. Reputable sellers  would not have homed a terrier puppy with an 79 year old person.

ANOTHER LITTER OF UNWANTED
PUPPIES ALL REHOMED BY PACT

Anyone buying a puppy should always meet the puppy’s parents before buying to ascertain the breeding history. The misery experienced by the mothers that produce puppies like Madge is appalling. Kept in small cages for a predominance of their lives, they are just breeding machines producing one litter after another until they can no longer cope and then they are discarded, being replaced by another more productive bitch.

FOUND WANDERING JUST AFTER CHRISTMAS IN THE FREEZING COLD.
NOW IN HIS NEW HOME

The trade is callous and cruel. EVERYONE who buys a puppy from a pet shop, newspaper, or online without seeing the parents and paperwork (where applicable) is contributing to this misery and often gets a sickly puppy and very substantial veterinary bills. Some puppies go on to develop long term health problems and an early death due to interbreeding by these unscrupulous breeders. Always ask which vet the breeder uses.

THESE PUPPIES WERE BORN AT THE SANCTUARY.
ALL ARE NOW IN THEIR NEW HOMES

Under the Breeding of Dogs Act 1991 and the Breeding and Sale of Dogs (welfare) Act 1999 the breeder must keep an accurate breeding record and the puppy must wear a visible means of identification. Needless to say Madge had none of these things..

ANOTHER PACT PUPPY SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENT

Breeders are not allowed to home puppies until they are at least 8 weeks old and if the breeder produces more than five litters of puppies for sale in a year they are legally obliged to apply for a license from their Local Authority. Anyone in breach of these conditions can be fined or imprisoned.

MAVIS CAME IN WITH SERIOUS LEG INJURY

Animal Rescue Centres across the country are full of unwanted dogs that were the puppies of 2009. Many face losing their lives because no one wants them.

RALPH ANOTHER PUPPY TAKEN TO THE VET TO BE PUT TO SLEEP DUE TO OWNER NOT BEING ABLE TO MEET VETINARY BILL FOR A BROKEN LEG

PACT has a ‘no kill’ policy so any animals coming into the sanctuary are safe for the rest of their lives. Before getting a puppy take a little time to go and visit your local sanctuary and see these unfortunates and you might just find a wonderful companion who has already learnt a lot of the skills required to live with humans.
