Shadow the big lovable Labrador came into our care at the start of November through no fault of his own. Shadow was purchased from a breeder with the intention of training him to be a therapy dog, his owner's circumstances changed and he was passed on to a family member. Sadly due to work commitments, the family member was struggling to dedicate the time he needed as a young puppy and asked for our help.
We instantly fell in love with Shadow the first time we met him, he is an extremely happy, big, and bouncy dog that loves human affection. He has a real zest for life and we truly believe he will bring any new owner so much joy. He is a large Labrador and can be strong on the lead, he is currently walked in a harness and a headcollar for this reason and would benefit from further loose lead training. Shadow loves to learn and please and thoroughly enjoys spending time in our training paddock, he is a typical Labrador and is ruled by his stomach so training with food is hugely beneficial to him. He knows his basic commands such as sit, stay and knows how to give paw, he also has good recall. Shadow would benefit from attending training classes with his new owner/s, he is a very young dog and can still show typical puppy behaviours such as jumping up and mouthing on occasion. We are continually working on this and Shadow is quickly learning that this is not acceptable behaviour.
Shadow has been socialised with other dogs at the sanctuary and has proven that he loves to play. He would be suitable to live with another dog but would equally be just as happy living as the only dog in the home with an owner dedicated to training him. Shadow did previously live with cats but he likes to chase them and wants to play and due to his size we feel he would be best suited to a home with no cats. Shadow did previously live with older children in his home and could quite happily again, he has never met young children and due to his size and his exuberance, we feel he would be best suited to living with older children who are dog savvy.
Shadow is both house trained and crate trained. He is happy to travel in the car and loves his toys and food. Shadow can be quite vocal, usually due to excitement but he has been known to bark when left for a period of time so would benefit from training in this area and a home where he is not left for long periods.
Shadow's ideal home would be with an active owner/s who enjoys training, long walks, and cuddles with a big soppy Labrador!
Shadow will require access to a private, secure garden attached to the home with a minimum of 5ft fencing.
